The American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are now recommending that children should remain in a rear facing car seat until age two (as opposed to age one). They are also recommending that children stay in boosters until the adult seat belt fits them properly (when they are about 4 ft 9 inches). They have based their recommendation on their studies of injuries and fatalities of children in car accidents.
